PHILIP HOSFORD is a pianist of international reputation, having toured throughout the United States, Europe, South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. The Washington Post acclaims his playing as “the perfect meeting of artistry and pyrotechnics ... gripping and powerful." Performance highlights include those at the Kennedy Center, Strathmore Center for the Arts,, New York’s Lincoln Center, London’s Wigmore Hall, Teatro del Opera in Buenos Aires and Kolarec Narodni Hall in Belgrade. He is the winner of top prizes in 15 national and international piano competitions including the Terrence Judd International Auditions in London, the United States Artistic Ambassador Auditions and the Beethoven Foundation’s Triennial Awards. Mr. Hosford is a recipient of the Solo Performers Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and is currently performing as a member of the National Philharmonic Piano Trio. In 1995, Mr. Hosford and his wife, Hayuru Taima founded the Academy of Music in Gaithersburg, Maryland which has a current enrollment of over 500 students.
As a soloist, HAYURU TAIMA toured Mexico, four countries in Central America and Haiti as an Artistic Ambassador for United States Information Agency performing concerts, lectures and master classes. She has also performed with the St. Louis, Buffalo Philharmonic, Aspen Music Festival, and Annapolis Symphonies among others. She is a First Prize winner in many national and international competitions, including the American Music Scholarship Association, Kosciuszko National Chopin Piano Competition, MTNA High School Piano Competition, and a Presidential Scholar in the Arts. As an active chamber musician, she performs frequently in the metropolitan area of Washington D.C. Formerly on the faculties at Levine School of Music, Hartwick Summer Music Festival and Institute, Flint School of Performing Arts, Music Center of Kalamazoo College, Summer Seminar at Western Michigan University, she is currently the Assistant Director at The Academy of Music in Maryland.
