Tuba Bach Chamber Music Festival

The Tuba Bach Chamber Music Festival is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Big Rapids, Michigan.

Since its inception in 2006, Tuba Bach has brought hundreds of exceptional musicians from around the world, across the United states, and from every corner of our state to present concerts and educational programming in West-Central Michigan, free of charge and available to all.

Edward K. Mallett, conductor Donald Flickinger and an all-star band of high school students and band directors from area schools. This concert also includes a 740+ image and photo show created by Jeff Gabalis that plays throughout the concert.

Before any of these, there was a band that remained the most popular musical act in the world for over 30 years. This concert is a tribute to Sousa's Band and the famous musicians who served as soloists.


DONALD FLICKINGER has recently been appointed Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs for Ferris State University. Prior to this appointment he was Academic Department Head for the College or Arts and Science’s Humanities Department, Professor of Music, Director of Bands, Conductor of the University Chamber Orchestra and Coordinator of the Music Industry Management Program for Ferris State University. He has been a guest conductor throughout the Midwest and has served as a conducting clinician and guest conductor in Australia and Europe. He is a past president of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association and was chosen Michigan’s Band Director of the Year in 1980. Mr. Flickinger has been associated with Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp for 35 seasons. He has been a regular conductor for student groups, the Festival Orchestra and Band, and the International Symphony Band and he serves as the conductor for the Blue Lake International Adult Band. He and is wife Kaye have led numerous concert tours throughout Europe with the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp’s summer Adult Arts Program consisting of eleven four day mini camps in a variety of arts areas. He is also a member of the Blue Lake Board of Trustees. Mr. Flickinger organized and for eight years conducted the West Central Concert Band, and Big Rapids based adult band. He is active as a clinician and adult band guest conductor. His primary conducting focus continues to be adult recreational music.
