A Tuba Bach Christmas
Sunday, December 16 — 4 PM
Big Rapids High School Auditorium
Big Rapids, MI
Tuba Bach is pleased to present TUBA BACH TUBACHRISTMAS, Sunday, December 16th at the Big Rapids High School Auditorium. Conceived by tuba virtuoso Harvey Phillips to honor his teacher, the late William J. Bell (born Christmas Day, 1902), the first Tuba Christmas was presented at Rockefeller Center in 1974. This unusual Christmas tradition is firmly established in over 200 cities around the world.
Tuba and euphonium players of all ages are welcome to join us for this event. Registration begins at 1:00 in the Big Rapids High School auditorium lobby, with rehearsal beginning at 1:30. The cost to participants is $10. Ensemble music selections will come from CAROLS FOR A MERRY TUBACHRISTMAS, which will be available for purchase online at www.tubabach.org or onsite if performers do not already own a copy of the music. The musicians will be conducted by members of the Tuba Bach Quartet.
Then, we invite the community to come to the Big Rapids High School Auditorium at 4:00 to watch and listen to the euphonious holiday cheer. In addition to the TUBACHRISTMAS ensemble, the concert will feature several numbers performed by the Tuba Bach Quartet — Ed Mallett and Gail Robertson on euphonium, and Charles Guy and Phil Sinder on tuba. Audience members will have plenty of opportunity to sing along with the Christmas carols and holiday favorites. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorated, themed tubas. This program is registered with the Harvey Phillips Foundation.
