Tuba Bach Community Outreach
From the very beginning, Tuba Bach has made community service one of our top priorities. In addition to making our world-class concerts as accessible as possible, to as many as possible – including our signature No Admission Charge – Priceless Entertainment! policy, as well as live-streaming all of our concerts and radio broadcasting all of our regular season Tuba Bach programs – we have done our best to reach out into the community and bring our music to those who might not be able to attend, as well as go beyond the concert stage through workshops, masterclasses, etc.
Since 2006 we have presented hundreds of outreach events, including:
- Concerts at area nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult special-needs centers
- Tuba Tales programs, presented at elementary schools and libraries throughout Michigan and beyond, sharing a love for creativity, literacy, and music through storytelling and puppetry
- Edu-tainment programs at area elementary and middle schools and special education centers, sharing not only music, but also our musicians’ backgrounds and cultures
- “Lunch Bachs” concerts, providing an up-close and informal setting for families and youngsters to get to know our musicians, ask questions, and participate in music-making
- Workshops and masterclasses presented by world-class artists to area instrumentalists, vocalists, and dancers
- Side-by-side performances with area high school musicians and community members, giving students and local musicians opportunities to work with professional musicians in rehearsal settings as well as on the concert stage
While Covid-19 has made it difficult for us to present many of these programs in the last two-plus years, we look forward to getting back into the swing of things. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in any of these programs – or have ideas for others! A major community outreach program that we are working on for the not-too-distant future is a Big Rapids area Community Music School. We are still in the planning stages, but we look forward to getting it off the ground soon. Stay tuned!
